Understanding the Condition of Pre-Loved Items
Every pre-loved item has its own history. Small signs of wear are normal and form part of the character of buying fashion that has been previously owned.
At In Style Ascot, we carefully assess each item before it is listed. We aim to describe its condition clearly and provide photographs of any notable signs of wear so that customers can shop with confidence.
Condition ratings are a helpful overall guide. They should always be considered alongside the complete product description and photographs for the individual item.
Our Condition Ratings
Unworn With Tags
The item appears unworn and has its original retail tags attached.
It may still show very light signs of storage, handling or age, particularly if it is a vintage or older piece. Any noticeable marks or imperfections will be disclosed.
Unworn Without Tags
The item appears unworn but no longer has its original retail tags attached.
It may have been tried on, displayed or stored. Original packaging may or may not be included.
Excellent Condition
The item has been worn or used very lightly and shows minimal signs of previous ownership.
Examples may include:

20. Minimal wear to hardware
21. Faint marks visible only on close inspection
22. Light sole wear from brief use
The item remains in excellent overall presentation.
Very Good Condition
The item has been gently used and shows some visible signs of wear, but remains well cared for and attractive.
Examples may include:
23. Light surface marks
24. Minor corner or edge wear
25. Gentle creasing
26. Small pulls or signs of fabric wear
27. Light wear to soles, heels or hardware
Any significant features will be shown or described.
Good Condition
The item has been regularly worn and displays clear signs of previous use, while remaining functional and suitable to enjoy.
Examples may include:
28. Visible marks or scuffs
29. Corner and edge wear
30. Noticeable creasing
31. Tarnishing or scratches to hardware
32. Wear to soles or heels
33. Minor repairs or alterations
34. Light discolouration consistent with age
The price will reflect the condition.
Fair or Well-Loved Condition
The item shows significant signs of wear but may still be desirable because of its brand, rarity, style or price.
These pieces will only be listed where we believe the condition is acceptable for resale and all material wear can be described clearly. They may appear in our Outlet or be identified as well-loved in the product description.

Pre-owned shoes may show sole wear even when the uppers remain in excellent condition.
Jewellery and accessories
We assess:

59. Tarnishing or discolouration

64. Included packaging or documents
Vintage Items
Vintage pieces should be assessed in the context of their age. Natural ageing, patina, gentle discolouration and evidence of previous craftsmanship may be expected.
We will highlight material wear or damage, but minor age-related characteristics may not always be individually listed.
Authentication and Condition
Authentication and condition are separate assessments.
An item can be authentic while showing significant wear, previous repairs or replacement components. Professional authentication does not mean that an item is new or in perfect condition.

Measurements and Sizing
Sizing can vary considerably between brands, seasons and countries. Where measurements are provided, they are approximate and taken by hand.
We recommend comparing the measurements with a similar item you already own rather than relying only on the label size.
Colour and Photography
We make every effort to represent colours accurately. However, colours may appear differently depending on lighting, photography and individual screen settings.
